Sunday the 21st August will go down in history as the day the whole of Hindley came to Leyland Park!! When we started the group it was our intention to encourage locals back into the grounds and enjoy the surroundings. That was definitely what happened at 'Picnic in the Park'.
The crowds came in their hundreds to listen to day long live music, ride the fairground rides and sample a few tipples from the FoLP beer tent.
We have had nothing but positive feedback and would like to thank everyone who made the event possible and those who came along to make it such a success.
We are a friends group for Leyland Park, Hindley. Our aim is to help provide a cleaner, safer park and to bring members of our local community together!
Anyone wishing to get involved or contact the friends group can do so at folp@hotmail.co.uk

Leyland Park flower beds

The flower beds at Leyland Park are finally open. After a spectacular 4 hour effort by the 'Friends', the beds are full to the brim with summer colour.
The plants were donated for free by Kevin & Keiron of Moss Bank Nurseries in Leigh. We cannot thank them enough as they have helped us acheive one of the groups longest standing aims, to get colour back in the park.
Thanks also to Ann Cockram from WLCT who was kind enough to fund the work involved in preparing the beds.
All in all, we can be proud of our night's work and I just hope that the beds get left to flourish!!!

Colour in the Park
Anyone visiting the park recently may have noticed the scroll beds on Coronation walk. They have been opened up after years of being covered by grass. the work was carried out earlier this year by Groundworks maintenance and funded by Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust.
We have been looking into ways of getting the money to plant the beds and we have finally succeeded! On wednesday 22nd June, the beds will finally be getting their much awaited dash of colour thanks to plants donated by Keiron and Kevin of Moss Bank Nurseries in Leigh.
Thanks to their generosity, we will finally finish on of our initial aims. Thanks chaps!!!

Great press coverage for 'Street Party'

After weeks of planning and many sleepless nights wondering if anyone would attend. the Street party in the Park came and went on the 1st May. It was a fabulous day and we have had much positive feedback since. It is nice when what you are doing is recognised outside the immediate community and that is what happened in the Wigan Evening Post the following week. Above you'll see a double page centre spread with pictures from the day.
It makes it all worth while!!!

Street Party in the Park

Well, what a day! The weather was fantastic, the park was packed and everywher you turned people were having fun. The day was a massive success thanks to the efforts of a small, determined committee.
We have to give a massive thanks to all the local businesses who supported the event. AJ signs, Birchalls, select a carpet, CP services, Sherringtons, La Cava, Fix it, Mortgage advice bureau, Kard Kabin, Four seasons, bonkers, sugar shack, Pye studios and Hindley locks all gave donations and time to help the cause.
An extra special thanks has to go to Jason and Amanda from The Plough who have been fantastic with us for a long time and continued their amazing support at weekend!!

Planting update
Tuesday, 15 February 2011
Work starts on the Leyland Park scroll beds.
One of our priorities when we started the group was to make a visual difference by getting some colour back into the park. we held our Planting event in November and should notice the benefit from early Spring.
However we wanted something more permanent and have asked (mithered constantly)WLCT to re-open the beds and today saw the start of the work. We are now looking into ways of funding and filling the beds, so if there are any green fingered experts out there, get in touch.
